I’m sure there have been worse ways to lose a game…but I can’t think of one. Texas loses a fly ball in the lights (?) and Stanford immediately advances to the College World Series.

Proving the USGA has a sense of humor, Rory McIlroy, who called himself the PGA’s sacrificial lamb in the fight against and eventual merger with LIV Golf, gets to play with LIV coverboy Brooks Koepka in rounds one and two.

Also late breaking news last night that beleaguered PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan is recovering from a “medical situation”, and two others are leading day-to-day operations.

U.S. Gymnastics Trials coming to Target Center in June 2024 - prime seats cost $1500 (for four sessions) to watch Suni Lee attempt to make another Olympic team.

Correa Walkoff Homer Powers Twins Past Brewers

Fourteen months into his Twins career, Carlos Correa has his signature moment. Correa hit a two-run walkoff homer against Milwaukee’s Devin Williams, as Minnesota rallied in the ninth for a 7-5 win to open a 10-game homestand.

Trailing by one entering the ninth, Donovan Solano knocked home Willi Castro with a single up the middle. Castro blew through the stop sign and scored easily.

The Twins didn’t even let it get to extra innings. Correa belted a Williams changeup off an LED board in left field for his biggest hit as a Twin. It was just the second homer off Williams this season - and Correa’s first career walkoff HR.

Things looked bleak for the Twins in the eighth, when they left the bases loaded as Joey Gallo struck out (the Twins’ 11th and final strikeout).

Getaway day for the Brewers tomorrow as the teams play a few minutes after noon. They say momentum is only as good as the next day’s starting pitcher. Bailey Ober toes the rubber for the Twins - where would they be without Ober and his 2.61 ERA?

House Always Wins in Vegas; Golden Knights Hoist Lord Stanley’s Cup

In just their sixth year of existence, the Vegas Golden Knights are Stanley Cup champions, dominating Florida in a five-game series including last night’s series clinching 9-3 thrashing on home ice. Expansion has certainly changed since the Wild came into the league in 2000. Bob Naegele and partners paid $80 million - Vegas was $500 million, and Seattle $650 million in 2021. There’s a lot of talk about where the Arizona Coyotes would wind up next. But if you’re a prospective owner, don’t you just hold out for expansion and a chance to win VERY soon after you start? A team hasn’t won this quickly since Edmonton in its fifth year of existence in 1984.

Mark Stone netted a hat trick in the series clincher. Vegas goalie Adin Hill is a free agent and is going to find himself a very nice contract this summer.

Nuggets Win NBA Title

In a yawner of a series similar to the NHL, the Denver Nuggets easily dispatched of Jimmy Butler’s Miami Heat team in five games. Good to see Denver assistant coach and former Wolves head coach Ryan Saunders get a ring.
