British Open begins early Thursday morning at Royal Liverpool
Rory McIlroy comes off the dramatic Scottish Open win and is the 5-1 favorite. Didn’t you used to be Jon Rahm? Never good at the British, he’s barely been heard of since his win at Augusta.
The Women’s World Cup gets underway about the same time Thursday with New Zealand and Norway. The U.S. plays Vietnam Friday at 8 p.m. central.
Julien Leads Way as Twins Blow Out Mariners
On a night they sat slumping Byron Buxton - expect to see more of that - DH in waiting Edouard Julien notched his second straight three hit game and hit one of the Twins’ four homers in a 10-3 whacking of the Mariners in Seattle late last night.
The Quebec City native lifted his average to .308, and while he’s been playing second base, the Twins should and will get him plenty of at bats at DH when Jorge Polanco comes off the injured list soon. He’s in St. Paul on a rehab assignment.
Matt Wallner DH’d last night, and while he had no hits in two at bats, it’s clear that the Twins are worried about Buxton, and for once not just his health. He’s 0-for-17 with an eye popping 10 strikeouts since the All-Star Break. He hasn’t played the field in a year, and you can’t have a DH batting under .200, not with the character flaws in the rest of the lineup.
Game three of the four-game set is tonight in Seattle. The Twins have won four of five after the All-Star Game.
Vikings Unveil Throwbacks They’ll Wear in Home Opener
The reaction to the Vikings throwback jerseys was divided amongst “lifelong Minnesotan” and “I just live here.”
I’m the latter of course. My yesteryear subscribers no doubt more quickly noticed the yellow patches on the arm and the stripe down the pants quicker than I did.
The Vikings will sell a lot of these - and they’ll wear them against Tampa Bay at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sept. 10.
Lynx Come Out of All-Star Break with Third Straight Loss
The Lynx sputtered out of the All-Star break, losing their third straight. The Lynx fell down by 17 at the half, rallied but not the whole way as Atlanta won 82-73. Another 35 points for WNBA All-Star Napheesa Collier.
Minnesota is back at home Thursday against L.A.
