The U.S. women open up World Cup play versus Vietnam tonight at 8 p.m. central. The Americans are the favorite to win it all.

They’re well into day two of the British Open already. Amateur Christo Lamprecht, who is 6-foot-8 (!!) and plays at Georgia Tech, was tied with Tommy Fleetwood and Emiliano Grillo at minus six after round one. Nice seeing old man Stewart Cink in the top 10.

Vikings’ No. 1 pick Jordan Addison was pulled over going 140 m.p.h. in his Lamborghini on I-94 this week.

Mariners Blank Twins in Series Finale

The Twins offense scored 42 runs in six games coming out of the All-Star Break but was blanked in a Thursday matinee in Seattle, falling 5-0. The teams split the four-game series.

It was 2-0 Mariners in the eighth when they scored three times against Jorge Lopez, who’s given up five runs in 6 ⅓ innings since leaving the team for a mental health break.

No Byron Buxton again - it’s really at a tipping point with him. Not that they can do much with him besides having him sit on the bench. Matt Wallner had two of the Twins’ five hits. Will Jorge Polanco be ready in St. Paul soon?

The Twins will hit the 100-game mark Saturday in game two of a three-game series at Target Field against the White Sox. They’re two games up on Cleveland.

Lynx Survive Sparks Rally to End Three-Game Skid

The Lynx were outscored by 25 points over a stretch of the second half yet still escaped Target Center with a 73-70 win over the L.A. Sparks. Minnesota built a 17-point halftime lead, yet appeared to be fading and fading fast in the third quarter. But they righted the ship in time to beat their nearest pursuer in the Western Conference standings.

Minnesota dominated inside, outscoring the Sparks 44-28 in the paint on the heels of 22 points from Napheesa Collier and 16 points and 10 rebounds from Dorka Juhasz, who entered the game scoring less than five points per game.

The win snapped a three-game skid for the Lynx, which plays host to WNBA leading Las Vegas on Saturday.

Loons Begin Leagues Cup at Home Versus Peubla

The month-long Leagues Cup kicks off this weekend, as MLS teams take on Liga MX in a “completely reimagined” event. There are 77 matches total - all in the U.S. and Canada. It’s the first time every team from both leagues is competing. The finalists and third-place team earn an automatic berth into the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup.

The Loons are in a group with Puebla of Liga MX - they play them Sunday at 8 at Allianz Field - and Chicago of MLS.
