The MVP Race Has a New Daddy—His Name Is Giannis.

Welcome to The Buckette List! Buckette because I am a fan girl of the Bucks, and continuing to collect NBA championships sits atop my personal Bucket List. Okay, maybe you aren’t a fan of the puns and dad jokes as much as I am, but you know who does love a good dad joke, the Greek Freak himself.

With the regular season behind us, and the playoffs just starting, it is the perfect time of year to pick fights with fellow basketball fans over who is the real NBA MVP this year. Based on traditional criteria for selecting MVP, it’s hard to argue with the current standings that it's got to go to the big man Joel Embiid.

Or EMVPIID as those rowdy Philly fans like to call him.

However, since when have we millennials ever been ones to follow tradition?! Consider this first Bucket List column my personal proposal, a plea to Boomers, GenZers, and Alphas alike. Of course, balling stats are critical in selecting the league’s MVP, but is that really all it takes to be the MOST VALUABLE player? Certainly, there are more things of value than just numbers.

My proposition… it is time to add a category for entertainment value.

Let’s explore who has interesting Instagram posts and TikToks. Which player interviews are most popular among fans? Life for us ordinaries off the court can be a struggle at times. We value our sources of entertainment probably just as much as getting student loan debt canceled.

So who is the leader of the MVP race now? Sorry Joker (Nikola Jokić), but if we are being honest I forget that the Denver Nuggets are even a team half the time. And while I absolutely love the bromance of Joel Embiid and James Harden on the Philadelphia Sixers, it's not like Jojo is out there bringing the entertainment. He does have some fire-sharp tweets when he posts but unfortunately, that isn’t too often. Can you guess where I am going with this?

The new era MVP trophy goes to Giannis Antetokounmpo!
The Daddy of Dad jokes.

If you haven’t experienced Giannis’ humor yet, what are you waiting for? He is hilarious. Go to his TikTok, Instragram, search him up on YouTube, wherever you consume media you can find him. But if you are too lazy to search don’t worry, I got you, I have a link below to get you started.

All of this to say is that Giannis is hands down the most lovable, and I’m going to say it, the most valuable player currently in the NBA. Whether he gets a trophy or not from the league this year he is the MVP of Dad Jokes, and according to the NBAstore.com his jersey is the #4 top seller ahead of Joker (#12) and Embiid (#13). And if high school taught me anything it was that popularity matters, so time for the award voters to start thinking outside the box when naming the league MVP.
