Minnesota looks for a 3-0 start, hosting Toronto in a PWHL contest tonight at The X.
Wolves Big Men Dominant in Orlando
The Wolves outgunned the Magic 113-92 in Orlando in a match-up of teams within a game of each other in the standings. But Orlando was no match for Minnesota, especially inside.
Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert combined for 49 points, 18 rebounds, six assists, four steals and three blocks. The win came on an off-night for Anthony Edwards, who scored just six points and had five turnovers in only 26 minutes. Amazingly enough, the Wolves are 7-1 all-time when ANT scores six points or fewer.
It’s a best in the West versus best in the East matchup tonight in Boston. The Wolves try to hand the Celtics their first home loss of the season. They’re 17-0.
What’s the Wild’s Deal with Dallas?
The Wild just can’t figure out the Dallas Stars. Not new news, of course. After giving up eight goals in a game that began a tailspin that led to Dean Evason’s firing a month and a half ago, the Wild was non competitive save for their goalie in a 4-0 home loss to the Stars on Monday.
And they’ve got little time to figure that out, with a rematch tonight in Dallas against Ryan Suter’s Stars.
Reading between the lines I’d expect Jesper Wallstedt aka the Wall of St. Paul to make his NHL debut in net tonight. Marc-Andre Fleury has been fine, but he’s played five straight with the Gus Bus hurt. Anyone heard of Wally Pipp?
Gopher Women’s Hoops Wins at Michigan
The Gopher women snapped a two-game losing streak with an 82-66 win at Michigan last night. The Gophers blew the doors off the game with a 29-12 fourth quarter. Mallory Heyer led four players in double figures with 21 points. Minnesota hit 15-of-28 3-pointers. The Gophers host Nebraska on Sunday.
