McCarthy Done for Year; How Badly is Addison Hurt?

Just hours after surgery told them rookie QB J.J. McCarthy would miss the entire season due to a torn meniscus, the Vikings watched second-year stud WR Jordan Addison be carted off the field with an ankle injury.

Kevin O’Connell said the injury isn’t serious and he won’t miss “extended time”, but considering they said basically the same thing Monday when McCarthy missed the open practice with knee soreness, who really knows.

The Vikings take on the Browns in Cleveland tomorrow at 3:25 p.m. They’ve been in Ohio all week doing joint practices.

It’s Sam Darnold’s team officially.

Twins Win as Buxton Heads to Injured List

Another so-called minor injury will sideline Byron Buxton for at least 10 days, as the Twins placed him on the injured list ahead of last night’s 3-2 win over the Rangers in Arlington. Buxton, who has been heating up and had seven homers in his last 55 at bats, took himself out of a game earlier this week with hip inflammation The Twins don’t think it’s serious (ahem), but they didn’t want to play short for more than a week.

Carlos Santana hit the go-ahead sacrifice fly against the Rangers last night, following two walks and a wild pitch. Bailey Ober didn’t factor in the decision but was great again, allowing two runs over six innings against the defending World Series champions.

The Twins are still four games back of Cleveland but two up on K.C. and 4.5 games up on Boston, which is currently the first team out of the wild card. The Twins have more than a 90 percent chance of making the playoffs as of today.

Lynx Beat Mystics in Return to WNBA Action

Gold medal winner Napheesa Collier scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Lynx returned from the Olympic break with a 79-68 win over Washington at Target Center. The game was tied after three quarters, but the Lynx allowed the Mystics just 10 points in the final 10 minutes.

The Lynx now lead the West by a game with 14 games left. The same two teams meet again Saturday in Washington. The Mystics have only six wins and trail the East.
