Stilly – Minnesota’s Best Kept Secret of The Summer.

Summer is in full swing, and aside from mosquitos, every alcohol brand under the sun (summer joke) has been coming out of the woodwork to tell you how their drink is the drink of the summer. You’ve got your usual big-name frontrunners like Coors Light, White Claw, Truly, and a couple familiar hometown classics, Leinenkuguels, New Glarus, Summit, etc. All of whom make compelling cases for why their cases should be the ones you bring to the fire, to the lake, wherever, but I’m here to tell you; they’re all wrong.

This year our brief season of sunshine belongs to the new kid on the block, Stilly.

Stilly is a surprise entry into the refreshing beverage market and I wouldn’t blame you if you haven’t heard of them, but let me give you the rundown. The drink itself is of the canned Vodka Cocktail variety, not unlike a High Noon, except unlike a High Noon it actually tastes like the flavor that’s printed on the side of the can.

Allow me to make a quick detour here, yeah yeah I get that High Noons are all the rage right now, but if you ask me the hype is a bit overblown. People like them because they were, for all intents and purposes, the first Vodka Seltzer on the market. Well, that and they happened to be backed by Boston’s most notorious sports fan Dave Portnoy, a man who possess an overall online following that’s somehow larger than the entire population of Denmark, go figure. Take the label off the can and you have a drink that’s not bad, but whose flavor profile is more like someone described to someone else what a watermelon or a pineapple tastes like, and then that second someone took that description and tried turned it into a flavor and did an eh job at it. Not a bad drink, but not the world class cocktail people would have you think it is.

Alright back to Stilly.

So it’s a ready-to-drink cocktail crafted by a local Stillwater couple, Nick and Amanda Barthelemy, and it comes in 3 flavors, Cranberry Lime, Grapefruit, and Peach. Now let me tell you, man are these things good. It’s still an on-the-rise company so they’re making it small-batch style, which means that the proper time & care are taken to give them a taste that is crisper & sharper than just about every other ready-to-drink beverage I’ve tried (please don’t ask me how many I’ve tried, it’s not a number I’m proud of). And here’s the thing, you don’t have to take my word for it, in just about a year this drink has made it out of the backyard into the big leagues, literally. They’ve got partnerships with the Wild, The Wolves, and The Twins, which means that drowning your sorrows can, at least, now be a tastier experience.

So the secret’s out, grab a case of Stillys next time you jump on whoever’s boat you managed to secure an invite to and now you get to be the Seltzer Savant, the person who just put all of your buddies onto their new favorite drink. No need to thank me, but if you want to, feel free to ship a case of Stillys my way.
