Thank Megan Moroney for Making This Summer "Lucky".
This summer, we got lucky. We got Megan Moroney.
Megan Moroney, From School to the Stage
Megan's blood runs thick in Georgia red as she is a country singer from Savannah. Unlike most college graduates, after her time at the University of Georgia, she hit the stage instead of the workforce.
I love Megan's music this summer because it's distinctly country and modern. She has that country twang to her voice but in a way that feels authentic. The fact that she went to college and was in a sorority and now is touring the country with legends Brooks & Dunn is a unique storyline many people can resonate with. At least the college and sorority part, not so much the touring the country part.
Megan Moroney, the Emo Cowgirl
See, I love country music, but I've never felt inclined to join on the whole cowgirl-boots-in-city-bars vibe. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't like wearing a pair after listening to "Lucky." Megan’s music is addicting and the perfect soundtrack for driving around country roads with the windows down.
My favorite song she has put out is “Sleep on My Side.” Let’s be honest; we all know a guy who is super fun as a friend but plays it super loose otherwise… This song is catchy and features clever lyrics that perfectly denounce the saying “opposites attract.”
She even wrote a song about something we girls know all too well. Megan questions the acts of her ex’s new girlfriend in “I’m Not Pretty,” as she talks about what it's like to be on the end of being judged for simply existing. If you are that ex’s new girlfriend, simply put: give me a break, learn to sew, bake a cake, take a walk and while you're at it, get lost. Hate to be the girl who liked that spring break picture from PCB…
That melange of a pure, soothing country sound with relatable themes is why Megan Moroney could be the perfect gateway drug into full-blown country. She is by no means a pop artist, but she doesn’t have any of that annoying sound some country haters are turned off by – Alexa plays “Fancy Like” by Walker Hayes.
The fan-proclaimed “emo cowgirl” was just here in the Midwest on her current tour, and I'm still punching the air over not having been at that concert. Thankfully for those like me who missed their chance to see the rising country start in person, she is going on her Lucky tour starting July 26 in New York.
But this summer, we did get lucky; we got Megan, and it seems we will have her for the long haul.
