The Best Pizza in the Country is Closer Than You Think.

Turns Out, it’s in Minneapolis!

Minnesota pizza lovers listen up! In February, Good Morning America held the United States of Pizza competition, where they brought 5 of the best pizzas from all over the county to a panel of judges to decide the best pizza in the USA for a $10,000 prize. After taste testing pizzas from coast to coast, Wrecktangle Pizza in Minneapolis came out victorious, a big win for the Minnesota food scene.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Wrecktangle Pizza and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I was ecstatic to try out some of their unique menu items, including their famous pickle roll ups, the elote pizza, and the shredder.

First off, let's talk about those pickle roll ups. These were the perfect appetizer – pickles wrapped in thin slices of salami and cream cheese. The combination of salty and tangy flavors reminded me of my childhood, and I couldn't help but order a second round.

Next, the elote pizza was a true standout. Topped with Elote (Mexican street corn), pickled red onions, cotija cheese, and drizzled with Tajin seasoning, this pizza was bursting with flavor. The crispy crust paired perfectly with the tartness of the pickled onions, the sweetness of the Elote, and the depth added by the Tajin seasoning. The “wrecktangle” shape of these pizzas make it so every piece is a crunchy edge piece, which adds a lot to the texture of the fluffy inner crust.

But the star of the show had to be The Shredder. This is their most popular menu Item, and the one most frequently advertised online. This pizza really elevated the taste with the addition of honey drizzled on top. It added a unique sweetness to the savory sausage, mushrooms, and cheese on the pizza. I've never tasted anything like it before and I can confidently say that it was a total game-changer. If you’re someone who typically skips out on the crust, you won't want to do that this time! The crust of this pizza tasted as if it was infused with the cheese, which was a refreshing twist on traditional pizza.

And let's not forget about the drinks. Wrecktangle Pizza has a Grape Ape cocktail on tap – something I've never seen before! Sipping on that was the perfect complement to my meal. Their spicy Mezcal was also a real treat, giving a smoky habanero punch to the cocktail that I had never encountered.

It's no surprise that Wrecktangle Pizza was voted the best pizza in the United States on Good Morning America. And I have to give a shoutout to our server, Ledo, who made the dining experience even better with his friendly and attentive service.

The ambiance of the restaurant was eclectic with a 70s feel, which made for a fun and lively atmosphere. I can confidently say that Wrecktangle Pizza is truly unique and brings a liveliness to the Uptown Minneapolis area.

Overall, I had a fantastic dining experience at Wrecktangle Pizza. The menu items were creative, delicious, and memorable. I can't wait to go back and try out more of their menu offerings.
