Tue-Fri next week with the holiday Monday…
My latest Make Glove not W.A.R. Twins column for Pulltab Sports - what the Twins can do next week, next month and beyond.
Stars Stay Alive
Both conference finals won’t be sweeps - Dallas’ Joe Pavelski scored a power play goal in OT around 10 p.m. last night to force a Game 5 in Las Vegas. Florida awaits, after Matthew Tkachuk scored yet another huge playoff goal, with less than five seconds left.
Celtics Stave Off Elimination
No NBA team has ever won after a 3-0 series deficit, but the Celtics are back to within 3-2 after beating Miami 110-97 last night. They play again Saturday, with Boston trying to force a Game 7.
Who’s Worried About Correa? Blue Jays Here This Weekend
The Twins may not need to make a hard decision on where to put Royce Lewis when they activate him from the injured list on Monday. That’s because Carlos Correa has plantar fasciitis and a sprain in his left foot. That left foot? The one that doctors from both the Giants and Mets thought was seriously injured enough to pass on mega contracts for the shortstop.
The Blue Jays come to Target Field for three this weekend. The Twins are a half game better in the standings than Toronto. But the Blue Jays are in last place, 10.5 games back in the stacked AL East. Toronto has lost nine of 11 though, and held a players only meeting yesterday after a 6-3 loss to Tampa.
Lynx Drop Game 1 of Commissioner’s Cup
The Lynx dropped to 0-3 with a 90-81 loss in Phoenix, while also dropping the first of 10 games of the WNBA’s in season “Commissioner’s Cup.” Win the Commissioner’s Cup and get a share of a prize pool, plus earn money for charity.
Minnesota needs a win - desperately. They’re one of three winless WNBA teams and the only one with three. The Lynx gave up 57 points in the first half alone in Phoenix. Aerial Powers scored 20 points in 24 minutes for Minnesota.
The Lynx will play at Las Vegas on Sunday - that’s another Commissioner’s Cup game
Loons Host Real Salt Lake
The Loons have scored just two goals in their last three MLS games - but are 2-0-0 in that stretch. They host Real Salt Lake this Saturday at 7:30. Emanuel Reynoso, who didn’t report to the team until this past week after legal troubles in his home country (among other reasons), has rejoined the team but isn’t quite ready to play yet.
Aurura Win 5-0 in Season Opener
Cat Rapp (what a name) scored twice in the Aurora’s 5-0 season-opening win over Rochester. They host the Chicago Dutch Lions this Saturday.
