MUST READ (I hate it when writers do this) at Pulltab Sports:
I had such an awesome time meeting inspiring athletes at the Hendrickson Foundation’s National Hockey Festival last weekend.
Florida with a dramatic 3-2 OT win over Vegas in Game 3, cutting the Golden Knights’ series lead to 2-1. Game 4 is Saturday in Sunrise.
Denver tries to take a 3-1 lead in Miami tonight in the NBA.
Oklahoma State swept Florida State to become the second school ever to win three straight Women’s College World Series titles. The Sooners went 61-1 with 53 straight wins.
Twins Slide Below .500 After Losing Fifth Straight
The Twins would be in last place in the AL East - 13 games out of first, but they’re 1.5 games up in the woeful central despite losing their fifth straight yesterday, 4-2 in a matinee in Tampa.
This team’s margin for error is SO SLIM with their lack of any offensive potency. Carlos Correa hit his first homer since May 13 (of this year, believe it or not). Bailey Ober started strong on the mound, but went from a 1-0 lead without allowing a hit, to a 3-1 deficit in just three pitches.
It’s like when the Wild has to work so hard to score, then gives up a cheap goal on the other end immediately after. Just back breaking for a team that’s not overly strong emotionally (or physically) right now.
The Twins have scored just seven runs in their last six games.
Up next? The red-hot Toronto Blue Jays, who have won three striaght and are 8-2 in their last 10.
Lynx PPD at Liberty
How bad was the wildfire smoke in the New York metropolitan area? The Lynx game - indoors - Wednesday in Newark was postponed because they wanted people to stay home.
The Lynx will put a 1-6 record on the line tonight at home against Indiana.
It’s Official: Vikings to Release Dalvin Cook
The worst kept secret in the NFL is out, as the Vikings informed Dalvin Cook that he’ll be released, leaving the No. 1 RB job to Alexander Mattison.
Cook responded on Twitter and Instagram, posting a video of him scoring an “expensive touchdown” in…Miami of all places. The Dolphins have long been rumored Cook’s landing spot.
Cha-Cha-Changes Coming to B10 Football Schedule
Something had to give with UCLA and USC coming to the Big 10. And yesterday the conference announced changes to the conference football schedule. There are no more divisions in the Big 10.
From the Daily Gopher: The Big Ten unveiled their conference football schedules for 2024 and 2025 on Thursday, utilizing a “Flex Protect” model that allows the league to assign different numbers of permanent annual opponents for each member team. Programs can play between one and three protected annual opponents while cycling through the rest of the league’s schools over several years.
The Gophers’ protected rivals are of course Wisconsin and Iowa.
The Gophers will play at UCLA in 2024 and host USC in 2025.
D3 Pitcher Throws 164 Pitches in Playoffs
Talk about leaving it all on the field. In his final ever collegiate start, grad student Gabriel Romano threw 164 pitches to help Division III Johns Hopkins force a winner-take-all national championship game against Lynchburg. Some Internet warriors threw Johns Hopkins - one of the premiere medical institutions in the world - under the bus for allowing this to happen, but the pitcher later took to Twitter to say: “At the end of the day it was my call and can confirm my arm is doing just fine.”
Johns Hopkins lost in said winner-take-all game.
