Can You Keep A Secret? Episode 6—Audra Martin.
Audra Martin has been a fixture in the Twin Cities since 2015 working as a Twins sideline reporter as well as a Minnesota Wild on-air studio host. If this were a normal podcast, you’d likely have learned that Audra was a graduate of University of Central Florida, where she wore the crown of Miss UCF in 2008. That her parents were relieved she didn’t pursue her original plan to become a police officer, and that she was a two-sport athlete and Cubs fan growing up in Illinois.
But we’re going to go ahead and assume you all have Google, and Can You Keep a Secret? isn’t your standard skim-the-surface podcast. This is a good thing for you listeners, as we can 100% guarantee this is the first ever interview with Audra Martin that includes all of the following:
Easily the best sentence uttered on the podcast so far, “STEVE HARVEY IS NO ONE’S PLAN B.” This was said by Audra Martin’s personal spirit animal and life coach, Family Feud host Steve Harvey. Yes, Audra Martin spent two years working directly with Steve Harvey as the audience coordinator for Family Feud. If you do nothing, you owe it to yourself to listen to how Steve Harvey changed the entire trajectory of Audra’s life and career. And we’ll go ahead and start printing the “STEVE HARVEY IS NO ONE’S PLAN B” t-shirts immediately.
Audra shares the many challenges female sports journalists face, including being dismissed as “talking heads,” and at least one viewer’s angry assertion that “hot pink and hockey don’t mesh.” Au contraire!
A question from our summer intern Cole, who while pursuing an interest in pottery, has yet to see the film Ghost.
At least one Yanni reference.
As we come out the other side of the pandemic, we were lucky enough to record this episode in person with Audra being kind enough to visit our office in downtown Stillwater. When we asked her what she liked to drink, Audra’s text simply read, “Coors Light and Scotch.” What’s not to like! Audra has taken her fair share of abuse working up the ranks of the sports world, but after listening to this episode we’re pretty sure most Minnesotans will consider Miss Martin “one of us,” and might even go out of their way to say something nice in the comments . . .not that Audra should read them.

Lastly, @InternCole—below is the pottery scene from Ghost. Don’t say we never did anything for ya!
