It’ll be Josh Dobbs when Minnesota faces the Raiders in a very Viking-centric Las Vegas on Sunday a little after 3.
They always say it’s not about the money, but Jon Rahm takes $300 million plus to join the Saudis and the LIV Tour.
Wild’s Roll Comes to End in Vancouver
If you watched the first 15 minutes of the Wild game in Vancouver last night then headed to bed, you’ll be shocked when I tell you that they not only lost but were shut out.
The Wild attempted 22 of the game’s first 23 shots, yet couldn’t get anything by Casey DeSmith. They allowed that one shot attempt midway through the first period, and didn’t allow a shot on goal for the opening 13:18. But they were blanked for the first time under John Hynes, 2-0.
A disaster of a night for the third D pairing of Jon Merrill and Alex Goligoski.
Marc-Andre Fleury gets the start tonight in Edmonton. A tough second half of a back-to-back when you’re losing an hour flying East.
Wolves Lead West by Three
We’re used to logjams in the Western Conference involving the Wolves, but they wake up today with a three game lead over the entire conference and the best record in the NBA at 16-4. The Wolves play at Memphis tonight.
Minnesota squeaked by last place San Antonio 102-94 Wednesday at Target Center. This is a game we’ve seen many times but on the other side. The Wolves let a far inferior team stick around, before ultimately pulling out the victory. Rudy Gobert - how good has he been - had 16 points and 20 rebounds. Anthony Edwards returned from injury with 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Gopher Hockey
My favorite rivalry in women’s sports gets renewed beginning tonight at Ridder, as No. 2 Wisconsin visits No. 3 Minnesota in the teams’ first matchup of the season. You can get in for $6 and I’d highly recommend it. The Gophers had won eight straight before tying No. 8 St. Cloud State earlier this week.
On the men’s side, the Gophers visit Ohio State.
Last series for both teams before Winter Break.
Gopher Hoops
The Gopher men won just two conference games last year, so yes coming back from 15 down against Nebraska to win 76-65 at home on Wednesday is reason to celebrate. The Gophers won despite leading scorer Dawson Garcia getting injured and playing sparingly. Minnesota plays Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday. No more B10 games until January.
The Gopher women are 8-1 heading into their Big 10 opener Sunday (Purdue at home). They blew out Kentucky for their fifth straight win, 76-57. Maura Braun scored 25 points, while freshman Grace Grocholski added 15. This team is pretty good.
