Xander Shauffele wins The Open Championship-no chance they play in the U.S. with that weather they had Saturday. Schauffele has two major wins this year, and is the first golfer in The Masters era (since 1934) with two final rounds of 65 or better in majors in the same year.

3M Open time here in the Twin Cities. I have no problem paying top price for good sporting events, but $81 a pop per day seems steep with a field of mostly nobodies (sorry Justin Roseand Tony Finau...and you have to wonder if Rose may pull out after a gutting tie for second at Royal Troon), with the tournament sandwiched between The Open and the Olympics.

Rob Dillingham looks to be the goods-25 points and 12 assists in the Summer League as the Wolves end with a 4-1 record.

Olympic week is upon us. Nice of NBC to raise the price of Peacock 33 percent this month...U.S men heavily favored in hoops despite a one-point win over South Sudan (!) in a tuneup over the weekend.

Twins Swept by Brewers

The Twins weren’t even sure they’d be able to field a team Saturday after Friday’s Microsoft outage cancelled hundreds of flights. Everyone made it back home in time for Saturday’s series opener against Milwaukee, but the Brewers took both games at Target Field.

Now the good news is that the Guardians lost twice as well, so the Twins remain five games back. However, the surging Royals (that’s not a typo) have pulled even with Minnesota. If the season ended today, the Twins and Royals would be tied for the final Wild Card spot.

Oh, and the best team in baseball, the Philadelphia Phillies, invade Target Field for three games beginning tonight. Minnesota has seven games left before the trade deadline.

Eddie Julien is back up from St. Paul with Carlos Correa still sidelined. Chris Paddack has a forearm strain and is out, too. This team needs at least one starter at the deadline.

Loons Beat San Jose to Snap Skid

The long nightmare is over, as the Loons snapped their nine-game, seven-week winless streak with a 2-0 home win over a historically bad San Jose squad Saturday. What a big monkey off the back, as the MLS season takes a hiatus as teams play teams from Liga MX in Mexico beginning this weekend. The Loons take on Seattle on the road in the first game Friday, and then host Necaxa next Tuesday.

Robin Lod participates in the MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday.
