The Frost is better than The Superior. The league did a great job keping the revamped names secret, but it led to awkward merch on day one.

Vikings gave defensive tackle Harrison Phillps a two-year extension worth $13 guaranteed, with up to $19 million possible. They also signed Jeshaun Jones from the practice squad with Jordan Addison hurt. We’re going to find out a lot about the Vikings Sunday, because the Niners are VERY good and dismantled the Packers on Monday.

Enjoy these four minutes of P.J. Fleck college football highlights (as a player).

Twins Get Much Needed Win, but No Help

Their wild card lead down to three games, their losing streak at four uninspired games, the Twins turned to their most reliable pitcher of the last three months for an unlikely turnaround.

With an 0-for-20 Royce Lewis on the bench, the Twins whipped the Angels 10-5 at Target Field to briefly stem the tide, on a field that saw both Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton face live pitching just a few hours before.

Lopez didn’t allow an earned run in seven innings - four unearned runs came thanks to an Eddie Julien fielding error. After a six-run Twins lead was cut to 6-4 in the fifth, veteran 1B Carlos Santana smacked a two-run homer and it was over.

Now, the Twins gained no ground. Every team they’re chasing, or that’s chasing them, won. But a loss with Lopez on the mound and team reeling would have further fueled the meltdown talk.

They’ll begin tonight’s series finale (Zebby Matthews and his 7.36 ERA on the mound) against the Angels three back of K.C. for the “fifth place” wild card, and three up on fast-closing Detroit for the final wild card spot.

Lynx Keep Rolling

Eleven wins in 12 games, including four straight, for the Lynx, who easily dispatched of Atlanta 76-64 last night on the road. Kayla McBride scored 15 points, while Napheesa Collier added 14 just hours after being named the Western Conference’s Player of the Week for the third time this year.

New York also won last night; the Lynx trail the Liberty by three games with four to play for first overall. The teams meet Sunday. First, Minnesota visits the Angela Reese-less Chicago Sky on Friday.
